I know, I know: it’s not even Thanksgiving yet. Why am I posting about Nutcracker? Because it is looming large in my mind. Besides, folks have started buying tickets already; you don’t want to miss out! Opening day is less than a month away, and the show closes (as in: we’re done with Nutcracker and I can take a breath) December 22nd.
If it’s not already part of your family tradition, you’ll want to check out the Tacoma City Ballet‘s version of The Nutcracker. Miss Erin, the Artistic Director, got a grant to research the original Russian Nutcracker and re-produce the costumes, scenery, and as much of the choreography as possible. The result is extremely family-friendly and beautiful. From the website:
Throughout the world, The Nutcracker Ballet has become a special Christmas event for generations. Tacoma City Ballet, in concert with The Northwest Sinfonietta, presents the story of Clara and The Nutcracker. This timeless family classic is performed in the tradition of the St. Petersburg Russian original presented over 100 years ago. From choreography to scenery and costume design, this glorious production transports you to a land filled with music, magic and wonder.
The members of Tacoma City Ballet begin working on the Nutcracker literally months ahead of time – we were already rehearsing the snow scene in June this year - and both cast and crew devote large chunks of their lives to preparing and performing this show. Costumers have been working hard to create new versions of the classic costumes, so this year promises to be even more beautiful! I hope you’ll join us this year for a fabulous holiday tradition!

Two things….the last day 12/22 was when I was having my 34th annual birthday dinner. So much for that day. And Kenna wants to see the Nutcracker, however I am not really that excited about going. So any other readers that want to take a so cute girl, call Melissa. Dinner will have to be on the 21st.
Well, I’m going to have rehearsal the 21st, but we’ll come to dinner after that. Or you could have your traditional birthday dinner on your birthday like you did last year…
I like that you’re willing to have a random blog reader take Kenna to Nutcracker. Or were you assuming it will be one of the readers you know personally?
Bwahahahahahaha!!! I LOVE the new poster!!!! And yes people should go check out the show, I hear that Drosselmeyer is quite the catch.
